What Is Paint Protection Film

Paint Protection Film, also referred to as clear bra, clear film, or clear paint film, is a durable layer of thermoplastic urethane applied to the painted surfaces of vehicles.

Its primary purpose is to act as a barrier against stone chips, bug splatters, and minor abrasions, preserving the clean new look of your car for longer.

PPF is also utilized in various other sectors, including aviation, electronics, and even mobile phones.

Why Seriously Consider for Paint Protection Film?

The allure of PPF lies in its ability to provide a seamless shield against the hazards encountered on the road. Whether it's the stray pebble kicked up by another vehicle or the relentless assault of bugs during a long drive, PPF acts as a sacrificial layer, absorbing the impact and leaving your paint unscathed. Moreover, it's OEM approved by most car manufacturers, ensuring quality and compatibility with your vehicle.

Where is Paint Protection Film Applied?

Typically, PPF is carefully applied to high-impact areas of vehicles prone to damage. These include the hood, front fenders, front bumper, side view mirrors, rocker panels, lower portion of doors, and rear guards behind the rear wheels.

By targeting these vulnerable areas, PPF provides comprehensive protection against the elements of the road.

The Military Origins of Paint Protection Film

PPF got it's start from the military. During the Vietnam War, the US military faced challenges with protecting sensitive parts of helicopters and military transports from flying shrapnel and debris. In response, 3M was tasked with developing a solution that was both inconspicuous and lightweight.  PPF was born, earning the nickname "helicopter tape" due to its initial use in military aviation.

The Future of Paint Protection Film

As automotive applications of PPF continue to gain prominence, the term "helicopter tape" is no longer used. Today, PPF is a  mainstream solution embraced by car enthusiasts and everyday drivers who know they spent too much on a car or truck to let the paint deteriorate.

Advancements in technology have given us self-healing films and enhanced durability.  Professional grade films last 10 years and do not yellow and crack like earlier generations.
