Winter may be over, but your truck or SUV could still be carrying the remnants of road grime, dirt, and grime. And with pollen season ramping up, it’s the perfect time for a deep clean to protect your vehicle’s paint and interior.
But let’s be honest—nobody wants to spend all day scrubbing their ride. Here’s how to make cleaning quick and easy while keeping your truck or SUV looking sharp.
Step 1: Start with a Thorough Rinse
Before you grab the soap, give your vehicle a high-pressure rinse to remove loose dirt, pollen, and winter grime. This prevents scratches when you start scrubbing.
Be sure to spray under the fenders and wheel wells, where mud tends to accumulate.
Step 2: Use a Two-Bucket Wash Method
The two-bucket method helps prevent swirl marks and scratches on your paint. Fill one bucket with clean water and another with soapy water.
Dip your wash mitt in the soapy bucket, wash a section of your vehicle, then rinse it in the clean water before dipping back into the soap. This keeps dirt from getting back onto your truck’s surface.
Washing out of direct sunlight prevents water spotting.
Step 3: Don’t Forget the Interior
After winter, your interior likely has built-up dust, coffee spills, and dirt from your boots.
A good interior microfiber towel will grab the dust and cut the clean up time in half. How do you know if it's "good"? I like to say, run it across your palm. If it catches on your calluses then it's still grabby. If not, it's time for an upgrade. If you don't have calluses I can't help you!
A quick vacuum of your floors and seats makes a huge difference. Use an all-purpose cleaner on your dashboard, steering wheel, and door panels to wipe away grime and leave your interior looking fresh.
Pro tip: Check your floor mats—deep cleaning or replacing them can make a big impact! If you need a deep vacuum to get up all the embedded sand use a high pressure air, like at the IQ Car Wash near the High School.
Step 4: Apply a Protective Coating
A wax or spray sealant makes cleaning easier by creating a slick surface that repels dirt and pollen.
Applying a quick spray wax or detailer after each wash keeps your paint looking fresh and makes future washes much faster. Don't skip this step. You'll be happy later.
If you need a professional grade sealant, we have a tried and tested favorite brand on our shelves.
Step 5: Keep Cleaning Supplies Handy
The key to quick and easy cleaning is regular maintenance. Keep a microfiber towel and a quick-detailing spray in your truck to wipe away pollen and dust before they build up.
A small handheld vacuum with at least 4.0HP is also great for quick touch-ups inside.
