What to Look for in an RV Detailer (Hint: It’s Not Just Who’s Cheapest)

If you’ve ever shopped around for RV detailing, you’ve probably noticed prices can vary a lot. And while saving money is smart, cutting corners on RV care can cost you thousands later.
So how do you separate a legit RV detailer from someone who just washes big vehicles?
Here’s what to look for — and what to avoid.
✅ Ask These Questions Before You Book:
1. Do you clean RVs regularly — or just occasionally? An RV is not just a big SUV. It has different materials, adhesives, and vulnerabilities. Someone who only details cars may not understand what can (and can’t) be pressure washed.
2. What’s your process for cleaning the roof?A lot of detailers skip this or do it wrong. Ask if they use roof-safe cleaners, check the sealant before washing, and know how to protect vents, solar panels, and caulking.
3. How do you protect seams and gaskets from water intrusion?High-pressure water too close to seams can introduce moisture into the walls — leading to mold, rot, and delamination. A pro should know how to rinse without soaking your framing.
4. Do you use separate tools for tires, paint, and windows?Cross-contamination is a real thing. A cheap towel reused on all surfaces might leave your paint scratched and your glass smeared. Tools matter.
🚩 Red Flags to Watch For:
“We just hit it with a power washer.”🚫 That's a no. Pressure alone doesn’t clean, and it can cause damage if misused.
“We don’t need to touch the roof.”🚫 Also a no. The roof is often the dirtiest part of your RV and directly affects everything below it.
“We don’t tape off or cover anything.”🚫 That means risk of overspray on graphics, water in door jams, and product on sensitive components.
